Frequently asked questions.

1. What does a dietitian do?

A dietitian is a trained healthcare professional who provides evidence-based nutritional advice and guidance to help individuals improve their health. I assess your individual needs, develop personalised nutrition plans, and offer ongoing support to help you reach your health goals—whether it’s weight management, improving energy, or addressing specific health concerns like diabetes or digestive issues.

2. How is a dietitian different from a nutritionist?

Dietitians are regulated healthcare professionals who undergo extensive education, clinical training, and certification. They are qualified to provide medical nutrition therapy for conditions like diabetes, heart disease, or digestive disorders. While nutritionists can offer general dietary advice, they may not have the same level of formal training or certification required to treat specific health conditions.

3. How does the initial consultation work?

During the initial consultation, I’ll conduct a thorough assessment of your health history, dietary habits, lifestyle, and any specific goals or concerns you have. This helps me understand the full picture of your health so I can develop personalised advice tailored to your needs. We will discuss realistic steps you can take to improve your nutrition and overall health.

4. Can I claim dietitian fees on my health insurance?

Finola is a member of The British Dietetic Association and registered with CORU Ireland and the HCPC in the UK.  Therefore, clients will be entitled to make a claim from their private health insurer.

Receipts can also be used to claim for health expense tax relief via the Med 1 Form for Irish clients.

5. How do you create personalised nutrition advice?

I use a science-based approach that considers your unique needs, such as your health goals, lifestyle, dietary preferences, and any medical conditions. I also look at factors like nutrient deficiencies, and your overall lifestyle to create a plan that is practical and sustainable. My goal is to provide guidance that fits into your life, not the other way around.

6. Can you help with specific medical conditions?

Yes, as a Registered Dietitian, I can provide clinical nutrition therapy for a variety of conditions, including diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, digestive disorders such as IBS, food allergies, and more. I provide tailored advice to help you manage or improve these conditions through the appropriate nutrition.

7. How long will it take to see results?

The timeline for seeing results varies depending on your individual goals and starting point. Some people notice improvements in energy levels or digestion within a few weeks, while long-term goals like weight management or managing chronic conditions may take several months of consistent effort. I focus on creating sustainable, long-term changes rather than quick fixes.

8. Do you offer virtual consultations?

Yes! Currently all my consultations are virtual for clients who prefer the convenience of online sessions. This allows you to receive personalised nutrition guidance no matter where you are located.

9. Will I need to follow a strict meal plan?

Not necessarily. Outside of my 12-Week Optimal Wellness Plan, I don’t provide strict meal plans (FAQs for 12 Week Optimal Wellness Plan). Instead, I offer tailored advice to help you make informed food choices that align with your goals. I’ll guide you on which foods may be beneficial or best avoided, while focusing on building sustainable, flexible eating habits that fit your lifestyle. However, if you’re following the 12-Week Wellness Plan, you will receive a structured meal guide to support your journey.

10. How often will we meet?

The frequency of follow-up appointments depends on your individual needs and goals. I typically recommend scheduling a follow up for four weeks for any ongoing support and adjustments. However, some clients, especially those just starting out, may benefit from more frequent sessions to stay on track and build momentum..

11. Can you help with weight loss?

Yes, I help clients develop personalised, sustainable strategies for weight management based on their unique needs. Rather than focusing on restrictive diets, I emphasise creating healthy habits, mindful eating, and finding balance. The goal is to achieve long-term weight management while improving overall health and well-being.

12. What if I have dietary restrictions or preferences?

I always consider any dietary restrictions, allergies, or preferences (such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, etc.) when creating your plan. My goal is to ensure that you have a nutritionally balanced plan that suits your lifestyle and makes you feel confident and comfortable with your food choices.

13. How do I get started?

Getting started is simple! You can schedule an initial consultation through my website or contact me directly at info@finthedietitian.com.
